I can’t believe I forgot to mention this. Unless you haven’t had a look at my portfolio, you may not have noticed that about two weeks ago I launched the Tango’d Films YouTube Brand Channel: http://youtube.com/tango.
It’s a pretty fun channel, the concept is that you take a Lomax d’n'b track and do some bad-ass dancing and submit it into the contest running on the channel.

What an awesome year so far!! I’ve launched four, yep that’s right 4, YouTube Brand Channels this year! I’ve still got a few up my sleeve yet but let’s see if I can make it twelve (yep, 12) this year. Here they are:
Enjoy!

Ah, what a crazy couple of weeks. If you haven’t read about this on my portfolio, here’s a snippet about this campaign:
“This was a very last minute project that I had the chance to work on. On my meeting to another project, I received a call from the creative agency asking for my help to get this YouTube and GCN centric campaign off the ground and turned around within 4 working days. It started off with a multi-stage YouTube brand channel that coincided with the launch of the teasers and adverts for the new 3D LED TV. I then also had to work on MPUs and a masthead for the YouTube homepage. Overall it was a pretty awesome project, one that had to be done quite fast (within 16 working days) and one that’s come off pretty well.”

I recently worked on a nice and quick project: YouTube Cannes Lions 48 Hour Ad Contest.
This is a bright and funky channel that asks the creative types around the world to create a compelling ad (that fits a brief of course) within 48 hours to win a chance to go to Cannes Lions. It’s pretty awesome, and it’s worth checking out the talent from last year: http://youtube.com/canneslions

Yes, it’s finally up! The D&AD Inspiration YouTube Channel has been probably one of my biggest projects so far. It’s a huge channel that allows creatives to upload commercial creatives to the area and have them viewed for free by the wider community. The process isn’t judged by D&AD, it’s a free for all really, well, apart from the moderation stage; this makes sure only the best stuff is uploaded.

After months of fruition, long transatlantic phone calls and late night code fixes, the fruits of our labour is now live for all to see: The Olympics ‘Best Of Us Challenge’. Go on, see if you can beat them!
It’s a great gadget and it’s really been worth it. I remember when I first got the phone call from the agency, Mekanism, who I must say are great and it’s been an absolute pleasure working with them, I thought that this is going to be a huge gadget. Again, it took a lot of determination, conference call, and lots and lots of new code and cleaning up of old code to get to this great gadget.
Now the last push is sticking it up on the brand channel but I’m sure that that’s coming very soon!
Much love to everyone who I worked with at Mekanism and I hope that they’re as proud of it as I am.

I’m in the middle of creating a new YouTube gadget and part of the specification is that it allows the user to see the videos on a time-line. The idea behind it is that companies can then have a simple and sleek gadget that allows them to display their videos, whether they’re viral or community influenced (much like Sprite’s Green Eyed World), in a simple time-line sort of format.
So using the MVC code I created for my other gadgets I was able to easily adapt it, create a new 2D carousel and then was left with the task of creating the visual time-line control and also sorting the videos by their date. Now the YouTube GData API allows you to pass a parameter called “orderby” with the value “published” which returns the entries according to when they were uploaded, the latest first.

When I showed the YouTube team in the states my 3D Carousel Demo and Perspective Carousel Demo they gave it lots of praise and lots of new ideas. For example, they suggested that tracking would be a necessity.
So I’m still developing on the ideas they gave me, but yesterday, out of the blue, I got an instant message on my G1 from one of the tech producers in NYC saying that they’ve been showing it to clients and the American Army National Guard are looking to take on my carousel and use it for their YouTube Brand Channel.

I wrote a post about a new gadget I created for YouTube Brand Channels. This gadget went down really well with the guys at YouTube and has been pushed to a channel for my friend Laurnce Mills.
However my colleague at work at work mentioned that it may look quite cool if instead of having the thumbnails in a “coverflow” style, have them coming from the back and going towards the user. So I created another gadget and published it here.

I was asked by my friend, Laurence Mills, to help him set up a simple micro site where he could upload shorts and showreels. I convinced him to have a YouTube Brand Channel rather than creating a web site and it getting lost in the ocean of the internet.
Looking at his work and knowing what he likes, I created a nice and simple grunge and worn style background. I then got him to put his set up his playlists so I could implement the 3D Carousel Gadget I created for YouTube.
